Beeson Announces Run for Congress in CO-3

Rifle, CO – On a platform of positive, proven leadership that Colorado families can trust, Martin C. Beeson today formally announced his candidacy for Congress in Colorado’s 3rd district.  Beeson is currently District Attorney in the 9th Judicial District covering all of Garfield, Pitkin and Rio Blanco counties.

Calling himself “just a small town prosecutor,” Beeson offered a positive vision for America that he says he has already applied as District Attorney, and will use as a blueprint for action in Congress.  “I’ve proven that corrupt politics can be replaced with trustworthy public service,” Beeson said, referring to his success in a recall election to unseat his former boss and fellow Republican in the District Attorney’s office.

“I have an instinctively positive vision for our country and our future.  I believe the American Dream can be made real again, and for every American…black, white, Hispanic or Asian,” Beeson said, “whether your family came here on the Mayflower or on the latest flight from China.”

Beeson, who lived for several years under communist rule in China and social religious extremism in Turkey, said his optimism springs from the freedoms Americans have to dream and pursue their own destinies:  “Americans can re-summon our courage and stand anew for that central value…Freedom,” said Beeson, “freedom to pursue the destiny God has designed for each of us without fear of Congress confiscating and redistributing destiny’s bounty through the House Appropriations Committee.”

Beeson took quick aim at those in Washington who abuse power and trust.  “My vision for America requires leaders who can be trusted with public power and the public purse,” he said, reserving his most pointed criticism for recent tax increases, massive unfunded spending, and corrupted politicians.  He said Colorado families should “tell Congress, You are NOT free to bail out your campaign contributors….to spend us into decades of debt….to decide economic winners and losers….to take over our banks….to use our tax dollars to pay for your re-election campaigns.”  He added, “Mr. Congressman, if you don’t like any of this, you ARE free to leave, and the sooner the better.”

Beeson questioned incumbent Democrat John Salazar’s fitness to represent the people of the 3rd district, saying Salazar was elected as a farmer and a service veteran, but recently resigned from the Agriculture and Veterans Affairs Committees for “a fat-cat seat” on the House Appropriations Committee – where Salazar then voted for “trillions of dollars of new debt and taxes in his first 60 days there without even reading the legislation,” Beeson said.

“The smart thing to do – and the responsible thing – is to either read the bills before you vote on them, or vote No until you can (read them),” Beeson added.  “If a bill isn’t worth reading, then it’s not worth voting for.  Blindly following your committee chairman or Party leaders or your big brother’s advice or the President is never an acceptable substitute for doing your job as a Member of Congress,” said Beeson.

Suggesting that voters across the country should begin firing their Congressmen, Beeson said it is time to restore trust between the electorate and the elected.  Beeson committed to reading spending legislation, “to make sure that I am not voting for government spending that taxes and diminishes our freedom.”  Beeson also committed to supporting alternatives to deficit spending, and to “halt and reverse the unprecedented expansion of government power that has swept through our markets, our corporate boardrooms, our churches, our schools and our personal finances.”

“Americans need to rescue our country from a corrupt and incompetent Congress, and you and I can begin right here at home, in the 3rd district,” Beeson concluded.
